Daniel Wickham seemed to suggest in his first tweet that Douglas Murray was wrong to suggest ISIS are very Islamic. Now I could have understood a *Sigh if someone said ''ISIS have nothing to do with Islam'' A very overused phrase that has no foundation in reality.....however he sighed at something rarely said despite it being true.
A group that parties wildly, gets drunk and wasted, gives free funky tattoo's to all members and has weekly tennis tournaments, Now that group wouldn't very Islamic.
A group that that names itself the Islamic State, Enforces Islamic law, Justifies it's actions with Islamic text, Has an Islamic flag, Observes Islamic rituals and is solely consisting of Islamic followers....Now that group IS very Islamic.
This is a statement of fact. So what is Justin Bieber sighing about?
Next he tries to mock Douglas Murray by sarcastically calling him a Sheikh, while scoffing at the idea he'd know what is and isn't Islamic.
When people mock David Cameron as a 'scholar' of Islam when he says ''Islam is the religion of peace'' It makes sense, because David Cameron likely doesn't know a great deal about Islam.
When people mock Russell Brand by sarcastically calling him a Sheikh...it makes sense, because he clearly has very limited knowledge about Islam.
But mocking Douglas Murray makes no sense since he's studied & debated about Islam for over 10+ years(and came out on top in the vast majority of debates BTW) He evidently knows a GREAT deal about Islam. People who know a great deal about Islam are often able to determine what is and isn't Islamic.
So why has this kid made these tweets?
Some theories
1. He assumes only Muslims can know what is and isn't Islamic - Obviously this would be silly since you do not have to believe in text to understand it or have knowledge about it.
2. He doesn't like what Douglas Murray said and is simply trying to rubbish him as he isn't mature enough to deal with reality.
3. He is unaware of Douglas Murray's credentials and assumes he(an 18-21 yr old kid who's probably spent no more than 50 hours in his life talking about or studying Islam) actually knows roughly as much as Murray does.
Next tweet......
This from a Baroness. Though she has form for this kind of thing. I do wonder who hands out these titles though given Sayeeda Warsi also was a Baroness.
Anyway she suggests no actual Muslim scholars available to discuss Islam for the BBC while highlighting there's 2.4 million Muslims in the UK.
Tom Holland like Douglas Murray had no issue saying ISIS are indeed Islamic. She words her tweet in a way which suggests the BBC are overlooking Muslims. However really that's not what it's about. She doesn't like what Douglas Murray & Tom Holland said. I guarantee if the BBC got some non Muslim who claimed Islam had nothing to do with ISIS and they're just monsters, evil has no religion and threw off a few more cliche phrases of bullshit she'd have probably praised him & made no reference to Muslim scholars or 2.4 million Muslims.
Tom Holland is a fairly well respected historian. Why is it a problem for him to give his pretty well informed view on the issue? Again because they don't like the conclusion he came to. Despite it being solid and completely rational.
The use of 'scholar' by both her & Justin Bieber is interesting as the leader of ISIS is a scholar of Islam, so why they attach so much importance to that I am not sure. Many scholars come to different conclusions about many things within Islam. One thing is for sure, you're more likely to get the truth or an accurate factual statement from people outside of a cult than people inside of a cult.
We've had many months of Muslims on shows claiming ISIS are nothing to do with Islam, or they're clueless on Islam and bought Islam for dummies manuals because they're so confused, or some appealing to emotion nonsense etc etc. It actually achieves nothing. You get nowhere. You simply have people unable and unwilling to accept a religion they consider perfect(the vast vast majority) is ultimately not perfect and ultimately a huge factor here.
Thus the LAST thing the BBC should have done after such an attack is get another dummy to roll out a few cliche lines solely because his interest is in defending Islam rather than confronting uncomfortable truths.
Though when we do have a Muslim willing to do that as Maajid Nawaz did only a few days earlier,...Unsurprisingly Muslims turn on him.
When atheists debate Christians on the bible or Christianity, people don't assume Christians know more. Quite often people side with the atheists simply because they feel the Christians are obviously biased & thus unable to see errors in their religion. Yet when non Muslims critique Islam it becomes a huge toxic issue.....? The reality is that Muslims DO NOT like criticism of Islam. Partly because they are not allowed to criticize Islam. They see no faults in Islam. Many Muslims say ''Islam is perfect, Muslims are not'' as a way of rationalizing Muslims doing bad things without Islam ever being responsible for any of the bad things these Muslims do. While bleeding heart lefty liberals & apologists of Islam often know very little about Islam and they assume other westerners don't either..thus they've become accustomed to thinking only Muslims or Muslim scholars have any authority to talk about Islam. This is garbage.
